YouTube News: New Shorts AI, 100% Audience Metrics & What VTuber Agencies Teach Us
YouTube Shorts' AI update transforms photos to videos; region-locked for now. Detailed audience metrics revealed, and insights from VShojo's success.

YouTube Shorts is releasing an AI update that lets you transform photos into videos with VO2 and later on with VO3. I’d love to show you the update, but unfortunately, it’s currently region-locked to the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. For those of you in these regions, you can access it via the big plus button in the YouTube main app.
To use it, go to create Shorts and hit the sparkle icon on the side to pull up the effects, including the AI effects. All content created with this feature is labeled as synthetic content and has a synth ID watermark embedded into the video, making it recognizable for other platforms as synthetically generated. This is essentially the opposite of the C2PA watermark, which ensures that the video hasn’t been tampered with from the camera to uploading—no edits or manipulations. Now, let’s move on to the analytics audience split. As a quick reminder, the returning and new viewers metric has been further divided. We now have:
- New viewers who haven’t interacted with the channel at all.
- Casual viewers who came back at least once per month in the last 6 months.
- Regular viewers who came back at least once per month for more than 6 months.
Keep in mind that these percentages can vary depending on your content and upload frequency. For example, here’s how it looks for a video where most traffic comes from tutorials—people view the code tutorial and then leave, never returning—compared to a daily live show on a channel with more subscribers.
