We’ve got some new YouTube updates to share. But before we dive in, we still have three open slots for one-on-one in-depth channel consultations here at KW Media. If you’re interested, send us an email at team@kwmedia. Looking forward to hearing from you! Now, let’s get into the YouTube news.
First up, a big win for Shorts creators: YouTube is finally rolling out the native caption tool to all creators. It will be integrated into the Shorts editor in the main YouTube app. There will be a new button to autogenerate captions, and you can edit the text, change styles, sizes, and more. This is a fantastic accessibility feature if you’re creating content directly in the YouTube editor within the app.
Task for you: We’re trying out these new features in our news segments. Head into the Shorts editing tool in the YouTube app, upload a short, and experiment with the different styles. Let me know in the comments what you think—is it a useful tool? Which fonts or styles do you like best? I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
Next, an update for the YouTube Create app, separate from the main YouTube app. It’s a compact editing app for your phone, and they’ve added a new feature called Templates. These are pre-built video structures that provide a starting point with cuts, music, and inspiration if you’re feeling stuck. The Inspiration tab is integrated into this feature, and you can still customize everything to keep it in your unique style. Just be mindful that having too much templated content on your channel can be a rejection reason for the YouTube Partner Program, especially if you’re mass-producing hundreds of videos with the same style. We’ll follow up on that later.
Now, let’s talk about the expanding Hype feature. It’s not entirely new; we discussed it in July 2024 when it first expanded. But it’s growing again, reaching 17 more countries. And there’s one more crucial addition coming this fall—in a few weeks, they’re introducing category leaderboards instead of a general leaderboard for your region. I believe this will make it easier to attract a more targeted audience.
Additionally, viewers who have hyped a video will be able to create a community post for that video, which should help with content discovery and foster a supportive ecosystem. I think it’s a positive move overall, though it’s hard to predict its exact impact.
This week’s task: Think about how you can specifically utilize this feature for your channel and content type to gain exposure. Share your approach in the comments, and let’s have a discussion!
Two quick updates to wrap up:
-
Effect Maker: YouTube’s tool for creating custom Shorts effects is now available in more regions. This is less for creators and more for developers, but large creators might find it useful to commission unique effects to set trends. Check out the link in the description if you’re interested.
-
AI-Generated Video Summaries: This feature is expanding. Remember, AI summaries complement your video descriptions; they don’t replace them. They give viewers a quick glimpse of your content and can help you understand how YouTube interprets your videos. If YouTube describes your content as “random gameplay with rambling,” it might be time to reevaluate your content strategy.
On that inspirational note, thanks for joining me. See you next week for more YouTube updates! Take care and goodbye!
