In the coming weeks, there will be an update regarding copyright, specifically for the YouTube Studio Mobile App. If you receive a copyright claim, you can now dispute it directly through the app or mute the affected sections. This is a handy feature, but the question remains why this has to be done only via the mobile app and not the desktop version.

Moving on to Shorts thumbnails: As announced, iOS users can now select a frame. This feature has been fully rolled out, and there are no further updates planned in this direction for now. Interestingly, the ability to change the thumbnail, or preview image, retroactively is no longer in the works. It was previously planned, but since Shorts are primarily displayed in shelves on the homepage or channel, and over 99.9% of watch time comes from the Shorts feed where you don’t see preview images while swiping, this feature will not be implemented for now.

Next, the Google Authenticator update: I am a big advocate of 2FA (two-factor authentication) and have been using Google Authenticator for years, which has worked well. Now there’s an update, and caution is advised: If you’re using the current version, you can continue to do so. The update brings synchronization, meaning you can restore your backup codes from the cloud if your phone is lost or stolen. In theory, this works, but since it’s a Google product, errors can occur. It’s possible that your 2FA code generation may stop working after the update. Google is already working on a patch, but until then, you should avoid the update.
