It’s April 1st - don’t worry, no April Fools here, just YouTube updates. So let’s kick off with permissions via Studio Mobile. Yes, we’re seeing more and more people choosing Studio Mobile as their primary workspace, especially Shorts creators who produce exclusively on their phones. Accordingly, you can now change permissions through the mobile app. That’s fine. Advanced permissions for managers are still planned for the end of April. We’ll have to see how it all develops. Let’s just wait and see.

When users in the live chat buy a Super Chat or Super Sticker for the first time, it’s announced as their first purchase in the chat. Apparently, an experiment showed that more users who hadn’t bought anything before started making transactions afterward. Whether that’s true or not, we’ll have to trust YouTube’s data. But I think it’s a nice story to help calibrate and encourage more users to utilize transactional revenue for creators.

Ultimately, it’s also a good thing for you - always keep an eye on the chat and see if someone might be making their first purchase. There are two updates in the YouTube Terms of Service area in April:

The first concerns the external links policy. Links that cannot be verified as safe will be removed. This policy applies to visible and audible links in videos as well as written links in the video description and comments. Wherever you post links, if they lead to an unsafe or potentially scammy site, they will be removed. Please be careful, as this can also lead to channel termination. Just go through your old videos, too, because even a video published in 2015 could get you into trouble.

The second update concerns account suspension and the environment around account suspension when a channel is terminated. This will now be enforced more strongly, and potential secondary accounts associated with a terminated account will also be removed. I think it’s a sensible move, but it also means that our younger creators need to pay attention to their channels if they want to remain active on this platform for a long time. Please adhere to all applicable guidelines, or you might never be allowed to have an account again. That would be a stupid situation. Please share this if you think someone in your circle might be heading down the wrong path. Warn them and feel free to link to this video.

And then we move on to the next update: We’ll be publishing another job on this later this week. But just last week - or was it the week before? - there was a big case involving a channel we all know. Unfortunately, no tips, but accordingly, we once again ask all creators to check the sender of alleged sponsorship emails. If in doubt, ask us, we’ll gladly negotiate such matters for you. Don’t download PDFs, and if you’re promised the moon and you’re a creator with 500 subscribers thinking, “Wow, they want to give me 15,000 euros for an integration,” then all alarm bells should be ringing. At the latest there, please turn on your brain and don’t download anything. They clone your browser and can then access your entire channel without knowing your 2FA or password. For YouTube, it’s even harder to prove that it didn’t come from you because, logically, the browser was cloned. So, take this action very, very seriously. Please be careful, it’s a very dangerous story, especially for smaller creators who usually don’t have a dedicated contact at YouTube yet.
