Enable/disable Membershelf: here's how!

Explain when the Membershelf appears and how Creators can disable it in the Studio or Monetization area.

Understanding the YouTube Member Shelf

The Member Shelf is a visual feature on your YouTube channel page designed to highlight your community of supporters. Instead of requiring manual setup, this shelf is triggered automatically by the platform once certain criteria are met.

When does the Member Shelf appear?

The Member Shelf becomes active and visible on your channel page as soon as you have more than eight members. Once this threshold is crossed, YouTube automatically generates a section that showcases your membership community to anyone visiting your profile.

It is important to note how the shelf selects which users to display: it does not list every member of your community. Instead, the shelf displays the profile pictures of eight randomly selected members. This provides a dynamic look at your supporter base without cluttering the page layout.

How to Disable or Manage the Member Shelf

While the automatic appearance of the Member Shelf can be a great way to recognize supporters, some Creators may prefer a different aesthetic or organization for their channel home page. If you wish to hide the shelf or reactivate it later, there are two primary methods to do so within YouTube Studio.

Method 1: Managing Channel Sections via Customization

If you want to control where the Member Shelf appears—or remove it entirely from your layout—you can use the customization tools.

  1. Log into YouTube Studio.
  2. Navigate to the “Customize” section in the side menu.
  3. From here, you can manage your channel sections. You have the option to remove the Member Shelf as a section or add it back if you decide you want it visible again.

This method is ideal for Creators who want to maintain specific control over the visual hierarchy of their channel page.

Method 2: Disabling via Monetization Settings

Alternatively, you can disable the feature through your membership settings. This approach is more direct and ties the visibility of the shelf to your monetization preferences.

  1. Open YouTube Studio.
  2. Go to the “Monetization” section.
  3. Locate the “Memberships” area.
  4. Toggle the feature off to disable the Member Shelf.

By using either of these methods, Creators can ensure their channel page reflects their preferred branding and layout while still managing their membership community effectively.
