Take Off: Creating Your YouTube Channel in 2023

Learn how to set up a personal or brand YouTube channel in 2023. Simple steps to get your channel started, including naming and managing multiple accounts.

Should I Create a Personal YouTube Channel or a Brand Account?

A personal YouTube channel is suitable for solo creators who do not plan to transfer their channel to others. Companies, on the other hand, are better off with a brand account as multiple Google accounts can manage a YouTube brand account simultaneously.

Creating a Personal YouTube Channel:

To create a personal YouTube channel, click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select “Create Channel.” Enter your channel name and alias (custom channel URL). Note that the alias must be unique and comply with YouTube’s guidelines for aliases. For more information on aliases, visit: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/11585688 YouTube will take a moment to display the channel. However, edits and changes can already be made at https://studio.youtube.com/ during this time.

Creating a Company YouTube Channel / Brand Account:

Creating a brand account is very similar. If you already have a personal channel, you can add a brand account using the Channel Switcher. You can access this by going through the right profile menu again or directly to the URL https://youtube.com/channel_switcher. Click on “Create Channel” and follow the on-screen instructions. To create a brand account, you need to verify your YouTube account with a phone number. Once creation is complete, you’ll have to wait a moment, just like with a personal account. During this time, changes can also be made in the YouTube Studio. Note that no alias is set when creating a brand account. This must be manually specified in the “Customize” tab of the Studio: https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UC/editing/details Also, note that you can switch between your personal and brand accounts via the right-hand menu.
