Understanding Super Thanks on YouTube

Super Thanks is a feature designed to allow viewers to support their favorite Creators directly through individual videos. While other fan funding tools often focus on live interactions, Super Thanks provides a way for fans to express gratitude and provide financial support on uploaded content.

How Viewers Send Super Thanks

For the viewer, the process of supporting a Creator is integrated directly into the video watching experience. Below a video, viewers will find a “Thanks” button. Upon clicking this button, they are presented with several predefined monetary amounts to choose from, simplifying the transaction process.

To make the interaction more personal, viewers can also include a comment along with their contribution. This allows the Creator to see exactly which piece of content prompted the support and read the accompanying message, fostering a closer connection between the Creator and their community.

Revenue Distribution for Creators

When a viewer sends a Super Thank, the resulting revenue is shared between YouTube and the Creator. Following the standard model for YouTube transaction revenue, Creators receive 70% of the amount after applicable taxes have been deducted. This provides an additional monetization stream that complements traditional ad revenue, allowing Creators to earn more from their most dedicated fans.

Eligibility and Activation

To take advantage of this feature, Creators must be members of the YouTube Partner Program. As of the original publication of this update, Super Thanks are available to all eligible participants within the program.

If you are a member of the program and wish to enable this functionality for your channel, you can do so through the monetization settings in YouTube Studio. Super Thanks are now available to all Creators in the YouTube Partner Program. If you want to send a Super Thank, click on the “Thanks” button below a video.
