Understanding YouTube Live Redirects

YouTube has introduced a feature known as Live Redirects, which functions similarly to the “Raids” feature found on Twitch. In essence, this tool allows a Creator to send their audience directly from their own ending stream to another live channel. This creates a seamless transition for viewers, helping them discover new content and allowing Creators to support one another by sharing their audiences in real-time.

Eligibility Requirements

Access to the Live Redirect feature is not universal across all accounts. To utilize this functionality, your channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers. Once this requirement is met, you can begin directing your viewers to other streams as part of your broadcast wrap-up.

How to Receive Live Redirects

While sending viewers to another channel is a straightforward process for eligible Creators, receiving those viewers requires specific configuration. If you want other channels to be able to redirect their audience to your stream, you must first enable and manage these permissions within your account settings.

Configuring Community Settings in YouTube Studio

To manage how redirects interact with your channel, you need to navigate to the backend of your account:

1. Open YouTube Studio.
2. Go to the Community settings section.

Within this menu, you can define the parameters for who is allowed to send viewers to your live stream. This ensures that you have control over the traffic entering your broadcast.

Managing Redirect Permissions

The Community settings provide specific options to customize your experience:

• Specified Channels: You can manually specify which channels are permitted to redirect their audience to yours.
• Public Subscriptions: You have the option to allow channels that you publicly subscribe to to perform redirects automatically.

By adjusting these settings, you can decide whether to keep your channel open to a wide range of collaborators or limit redirects to a trusted circle of fellow Creators.

YouTube Live Redirects are essentially the same as Twitch Raids. If your channel has more than 1,000 subscribers, you’ll have access to the new Live Redirect feature. It allows you to redirect viewers from one stream to another channel after your stream ends. To receive viewers, you need to set this up in YouTube Studio under the “Community” settings. There, you can specify who is allowed to redirect to your channel and whether channels you publicly subscribe to can do so automatically.
