There’s news regarding YouTube Jels: they’re now being rolled out in the US during the first week. Unfortunately, we still don’t have exact data on the bundle prices, but we now know the conversion rate between Jels and Rubies. To remind you: 100 Rubies equal one US dollar, so 1 Ruby equals a cent. The conversion between Jels and Rubies will be at a ratio of 2:1, meaning 200 Jels will equal one Ruby and thus one US dollar.

The original Jel price is variable and, according to YouTube, will often change due to numerous promotions and special offers. The bundle prices will be close to a cent per Duel, which means the Creator will ultimately generate a 50% share. However, for the higher-tier bundles, the price is expected to be significantly below a cent per Duel, thus increasing the Creator share accordingly. When users shop wisely, it’s beneficial for the Creator as 70-80% or even more of the revenue from Jels will be passed on to them. I think that’s a really good thing! We’ll create a detailed calculation once we have more information about the bundles. If you live in the US and already have access, feel free to send me a screenshot via email or Discord; I’ll anonymize it, and we can discuss it further here.

Regarding the end of the year: Super Chat Goals are finally being taken out of the experimental phase and rolled out to all Creators. The full launch is scheduled for December 16th. I recently complained about this, and my voice was heard: regular moderators will be able to create, stop, and edit Super Chat Goals at launch. That’s all I wanted! Do I always have to complain first? For this success, we can maybe write an orange heart in the comments; that would make me very happy.

Now, let’s briefly talk about Hype: as previously hinted, Hype is set to receive a paid feature currently being tested in Brazil. Normally, you get three free Hypes per week, but if you want more, you can purchase additional ones. Again, I don’t know the prices yet and haven’t found reliable information, so let’s wait and see how this experiment develops and keep an eye on it.

Next, we have a short update on Dreamscreen: Dreamscreen is essentially an AI generator within the Shorts creation tools. It’s not yet available in Europe but is being unlocked for more Creators in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Basically, it’s a text prompt, as you know from AI, that creates a background you can position yourself in front of and film. The rest is calculated and works similarly to a green screen. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you’d use something like this. Do you generally stand in front of the camera when you have your phone and create content? For me, it’s always a bit weird, but to be fair, I come from the gaming scene where such setups are normal.

Staying on the topic of AI: training data is an important issue, and YouTube now wants to use Creator data to train AIs. Before you get upset, we’ve spoken with the team, and our concerns have been heard here as well. By default, this won’t happen, so your data won’t be used if you don’t take action. However, if you say, “That would actually be cool if the AI got better because I’m sharing my data,” then you can perform what’s called an opt-in. This is voluntary, of course—those who want to participate will, and those who don’t, won’t. And those who didn’t know about it won’t do anything either. So no one will be harmed. In this case, one can say: well done!

End-of-Year Gaming Recap

Lastly, we have the year-in-review gaming recap for YouTube gamers among you, or for Creators and viewers who follow other Creators in the gaming space. I’ll quickly show you some screenshots of what it looks like for me. For instance, I’m a big fan of “Hand of Blood,” so I’m in the top 1% of viewers.

What games have I watched? Ballatrus is there, the Ring DLC, Let’s Go—all easy. So, a nice story, reminiscent of the Steam recap or Spotify recap. I’d also be happy if this were available beyond YouTube Gaming for other Creators. Why not? We’ll just have to wait and see.

If you’re active in gaming, let me know what you think about this. If not, then not. See you all next week. Until then, take care and keep going!
