With the YouTube updates, we’re starting this week with Analytics, as there’s a new Analytics card in the Audience section. It displays the device types that were previously available in advanced mode but are now presented in a clear card format. This provides a percentage breakdown of the device types your viewers are actively using. This can be helpful to adjust on-screen elements proportionally and understand which device you’re primarily producing for—is it more smartphone or TV viewing?
Feel free to drop a comment about your content genre, and if you’re in gaming, what game you play and how your device type distribution looks. Maybe we can learn from each other and identify an average. I find this super interesting!
Staying on the topic of smartphones, those of you who consume livestreams on mobile devices will be particularly excited, as auto-completions for mobile chats are set to be implemented by Q1 2025 (end of March). This means that when typing from a PC, you’ll get a small selection of names of people who have recently chatted or suggestions matching the letters you’ve typed. This will apply to both vertical and horizontal livestreams.
I think this is great because, at the backend, YouTube livestreams are essentially the same whether horizontal or vertical. So, using the Live Control Room and an automatic stream key, you can create both types. The important thing is to be excited that auto-completions are finally coming to mobile live chats! And if you have viewers watching your streams on mobile, they’ll naturally be happy about this too.
As soon as we have more information, you’ll hear it here on the channel. Thanks as always for watching, and see you next week! Until then, take care and keep pushing!
