They Want You to Automate (Then Ban Your Channel) | Creator News

Wait a second, I’m getting a serious déjà vu here. Am I just reading the exact same script as last week? YouTube has handed us another AI trap for creators, and Twitch is building an AI tool to micromanage your streams, while YouTube Premium is increasing its prices, directly impacting your channel’s revenue. The platforms are basically rehashing their greatest hits. Let’s cut to the chase and get straight to the creator news, starting with your finances.

YouTube is currently sending emails to German users announcing a significant price hike for YouTube Premium, effective July. While the standard and family plans are increasing by approximately 15-17%, the real impact is on Premium Light. The price is jumping from €5.99 to €7.99—a substantial 33% increase. Previously, Premium Light was priced very reasonably at €5.99. You might think, “It’s just the viewer paying more; what does it matter to me?” As a creator, you should care.

This week, we analyzed the analytics of several channels in our portfolio and found that YouTube Premium revenue accounts for 3-10% of total channel earnings, depending on audience and topic. Premium views are among the most stable and highest-paying views. If users cancel their Light subscriptions due to this 33% price increase, those premium views will drop back into the regular ad-supported pool, where ad blockers are prevalent. Keep a close eye on your revenue tabs in July; we predict a significant volatility in your RPMs.

YouTube has also updated their Creator Responsibility Policy, adding a new rule: “Using YouTube features, tools, or services to create new or modified content that harms or is intended to harm others is considered a serious violation.” This includes spam creation. Penalties for violations range from loss of access to YouTube features up to channel termination.

Let me be clear, if this policy update eliminates the cheap AI automation channels that are plaguing the platform, it’s a step in the right direction. But, let’s also call out the hypocrisy. Just weeks ago, YouTube was pushing generative AI like Gemini and AI avatars, encouraging automation. Yet, they’re building a legal backdoor to terminate channels if creators use these tools to scale.

They want the tech hype but are offloading all the risk onto creators. If you aim to run a serious business, don’t fall for the automation trend. Do the actual work, or you’re giving YouTube a blank check to delete your channel at their discretion. Meanwhile, on Twitch, the micromanagement persists. We’ve already discussed Campaign Assists listening in on sponsorship reads; now, they’re seeking testers on Discord for a new AI tool.

This AI will analyze your previous streams and channel metrics to provide actionable feedback—similar to YouTube’s Creator Studio but focused on stream optimization rather than discovery or monetization improvements. Twitch wants to automate stream reviews, shaping creators into the perfect advertiser-friendly format. The platform is increasingly dictating what constitutes a “good” stream, taking control away from you and your community. Not only control but creativity as well.

Notice the pattern? YouTube threatens your channel if you misuse their tools, Twitch builds an AI to dictate how you stream, and Google arbitrarily raises prices that affect your RPM. The platforms constantly move the goalposts, leaving you with zero control. If you’re tired of this constant pressure, check out the survey pinned below. We’re developing a tool to help you reclaim control of your capacity, and we need your input to make it effective.

That’s all for this week. Protect your time, know your worth, subscribe for more relevant creator news, and I’ll see you next week with more updates.
