Text-to-Speech Feature for YouTube Shorts on Android
YouTube's new text-to-speech function lets Android users add voiceovers to Shorts. iOS users, unfortunately, will have to wait.

YouTube is currently experimenting with a text-to-speech feature for the Shorts Editor in the YouTube app on Android. This means that iOS users will have to wait for now, while Android users will soon have the option to have on-screen text inserted via the Shorts Editor read out loud in one of four voices. This rollout will take place over the next few weeks. If you don’t have the feature yet, just check back in a week or two.
It could be a very interesting option, especially for people who don’t like to hear themselves in videos but still want to present something. However, keep in mind that excessive use of the text-to-speech function can lead to exclusion from the YouTube Partnership Program if it doesn’t add value. YouTube wants to see that the Creator has actually worked on the video and that it’s not just a haphazard collection of content with half-hearted text thrown over it.
You can use the feature to enhance your own content, especially when recording a voiceover wasn’t possible due to background noise, for example. I think it could be an exciting possibility, and I’m curious about your opinions in the comments. Would you try it out? We definitely will, as we’re currently also creating the YouTube ABC, a kind of glossary in Shorts form. We’ll likely use the text-to-speech feature there to see how well it works and if it’s meaningful.
Additionally, I’ve been looking at ViewSats, a browser extension from MR Beast’s team that works similarly to Social Blade but runs directly on YouTube as an extension. It’s a mix of VIQ and Social Blade. I probably won’t make a video about it because there’s not much significant to say. I don’t find the paid options particularly useful, and otherwise, I can’t say much besides that it’s handy for seeing if a video is getting more views than other videos on the same channel. However, it’s mainly worthwhile for large channels with a corresponding viewer base so that you can compare the values.
In summary: Check out the Q&A stream from two weeks ago, where we discussed some interesting topics. See you next Saturday for more YouTube news! Take care and keep going!
