YouTube Updates: AI Comment Summaries & Shorts Stickers

The YouTube updates this week: We’re kicking off with AI comment summaries, a very interesting story in my opinion. It’s working okay in the English sphere and is now set to be introduced to the German market as well. However, it will remain an opt-out feature for now due to concerns raised by the EU, which are putting the brakes on its implementation. Creators currently have no way to disable this feature, meaning you’re reliant on YouTube. It’s crucial to ensure the AI works correctly and doesn’t make mistakes, especially with localized content where Google Translate, despite improvements, is still error-prone.
We’re in discussions with YouTube to enable a creator-side opt-out option. Currently, YouTube is arguing that it needs a user-based solution. For you as creators, it’s important to know that this feature is not being introduced in the German market at this time. If that changes, you’ll hear about it here on this channel.
Another topic: Premium memberships are getting more expensive in India. This has two implications: Firstly, there are significant differences in purchasing power between markets, as we’ve already discussed. Many people in countries like Argentina and India have purchased premium memberships, which means a price increase will lead to higher revenue for you. Secondly, it’s unfortunate for users who’ve bought cheaper memberships using VPNs, but overall, it’s in the interest of creators if the premium share increases.
Some of you have asked about the “Add your Sticker” feature in YouTube Shorts. It turns out it only works when the user creates a public short, as described in the Help Center. At least on my smartphone, I need to completely clear the RAM before I can record or upload a video. Otherwise, the YouTube Shorts Creator crashes and won’t let me select stickers. So, if you’re having trouble using stickers, try resetting your RAM.
Lastly: We’re collecting questions again for our Q&A stream next Thursday. As we have a meeting with YouTube beforehand, you can send us your questions so we can clarify them and then discuss them on Thursday. So, get commenting!

We’ll write back soon, you know the drill, and we hope to have answers for you by next Thursday. I think I’ll say: See you next week, but that’s the 19th, September 19th. By then, a lot will likely already be in place by the time you watch this video. You can simply set a reminder and get notified when we go live.
That’s all for this week. Thank you so much for your attention! See you at the Q&A livestream or next week for more YouTube news. Until then, take care and stay healthy!
