YouTube's Summer Launch: A/B Testing with Thumbnails and Super Chat Updates
Get ready for YouTube's summer feature drop: Thumbnail A/B testing (Test and Compare) and enhancements to Super Chat Likes and reply threads.
Transcript
Thumbnail A/B Testing, or Test and Compare as YouTube calls it, will be rolled out as a feature in late 2024 (Q2/Q3), which is during the summer. As you know, this channel is actually in the test group for Thumbnail A/B Testing. That means we’re currently working with YouTube on one of the last bugs that need to be fixed before the feature can be enabled. Of course, it always takes a little while, but we’re staying on it. As soon as it’s available, you’ll hear about it here.
First up, let’s move on to the Advertiser Friendly Guidelines (AFG). This concerns the paragraph on “Profanity,” meaning vulgar language or insults that can affect your monetization status. There is no change to the policy itself, but additional examples have been added that could result in demonetization. As mentioned, the way this policy is enforced has not changed; only more examples have been added to make it easier to keep track of which swear words are allowed and which aren’t. You can find the link to the policy in the video description where you can read it for yourself and check if there are any words you frequently use that you might want to avoid.
Lastly, we touched on what’s happening with Super Chat Likes and Super Chat reply threads during our last Q&A stream. Super Chat Likes have already been launched today. That means if you have extra money during your next live stream, you can send us a Super Chat, and other viewers can give it a thumbs up. I think this is a nice little quality improvement, especially for YouTube partners. The Super Chat reply threads are still in the works, but I’ve seen a little mockup (which I unfortunately can’t share). It looks promising, and of course, I’ll keep you updated as soon as there are any new developments.
At this point, I’d like to thank you all for tuning in. As you can see, I’m not in my usual surroundings, so there won’t be a Patch Rundown next week. But I’ll do my best, and if anything comes up in the meantime, maybe Leo will keep you updated. I don’t expect that to happen though. So, see you in two weeks, take care, and stay productive!
