YouTube has announced a significant update for podcasters: RSS ingestion is now available to 100% of Creators. This feature removes a major technical barrier for those who produce audio-first content but want to expand their reach to the YouTube ecosystem without the burden of manual uploads for every single episode.

By allowing Creators to connect their existing podcast feeds directly to YouTube, the platform is making it significantly easier to synchronize content across different distribution channels.

Eligibility and Requirements

One of the most positive aspects of this rollout is the lack of subscriber requirements. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a brand-new Creator, the tool is technically available to you. However, there is one critical prerequisite: you must have Advanced Features enabled on your account.

How to Enable Advanced Features

For those who do not yet have Advanced Features active in their YouTube Studio, there are three primary ways to gain access:

1. Video Verification: Providing a short video to verify your identity.
2. Valid ID: Providing a government-issued identification document.
3. Channel History: This is the organic route. By consistently uploading content and adhering to YouTube’s community guidelines—essentially “behaving yourself” and staying active—you can build up a channel history that automatically unlocks these features.

If you have already been active on the platform and have a clean track record, you may find that these features are already enabled for you.

How to Set Up RSS Ingestion

Depending on whether you are starting a new podcast on YouTube or integrating an existing one, there are two different workflows to follow within YouTube Studio.

Starting a New Podcast via RSS

If you have a podcast hosted elsewhere and want to bring it over to YouTube for the first time, follow these steps:

• Navigate to the Create button located at the top of YouTube Studio.
• Select New and then choose the Podcast option.
• From here, you can choose to upload existing podcasts via an RSS feed.

Once you submit your feed, you will undergo a short verification process. This ensures that you are the rightful owner of the RSS feed before the content is imported to your channel.

Connecting RSS to an Existing YouTube Podcast

If you have already manually created a podcast playlist on YouTube and now wish to automate future uploads, the process is slightly different:

• Go to your existing podcast playlist.
• Navigate to the Details section.
• Look for the option to connect your RSS feed.

Once connected, YouTube will be able to import new episodes automatically as they are published to your feed, ensuring your YouTube audience stays up to date without additional manual effort.

Managing Your Content and Descriptions

A key consideration when using RSS ingestion is how your metadata is handled. YouTube provides Creators with flexibility regarding how their episode descriptions appear on the platform.

When setting up the ingestion, you can choose to “Use the description from the RSS feed.” This is the most efficient option, as it mirrors the show notes you have already written for your other podcast platforms.

However, because YouTube is a video-centric platform, some Creators may prefer to individually relabel their episodes. This allows you to optimize titles and descriptions specifically for YouTube’s search and discovery algorithms, which may differ from how listeners find your show on a traditional podcast app.

RSS ingestion is now available for YouTube Podcasts for 100% of Creators—that’s fantastic news! There are no sub requirements, but you need to have Advanced Features enabled. Of course, you’ll need either a video ID or pass ID, or your channel must have uploaded content for a while and built up a channel history. Just upload stuff, behave yourself, and you can use this wonderful feature!

How does it all work? You can now click on the “Create” button at the top of YouTube Studio, then click on “New,” and for the podcast, you can upload existing podcasts from the RSS feed with a short verification process. Of course, you can either choose to “Use the description from the RSS feed” or individually relabel everything if you prefer. Alternatively, if you’ve already set up a podcast on YouTube, go to the podcast playlist, where you’ll find an option under “Details” to connect the RSS feed and import new episodes via the RSS feed.
