New on YouTube: Animated 'Join Member' Button
A new feature for Creators with Channel Memberships: the 'Become a Member' button now animates when you ask viewers to join.
Enhancing Your Call-to-Action with Animated Membership Buttons
YouTube is introducing a subtle but effective visual update designed to help Creators increase the visibility of their Channel Memberships. For those who offer memberships, the platform is now implementing an animated effect for the “Become a Member” button, creating a more dynamic link between a Creator’s verbal request and the viewer’s ability to take action.
How the Animated Button Works
The core of this update is the integration of language recognition technology. Rather than requiring a manual trigger or a specific timestamp setting in YouTube Studio, the animation is activated automatically based on the audio content of the video.
When YouTube detects specific call-to-action (CTA) phrases spoken by the Creator, the Become a Member button located below the video player will light up with a colorful animation. This visual cue serves as a real-time pointer, directing the viewer’s attention exactly where they need to click to support the channel.
Triggering Phrases and Language Recognition
To trigger this animation, Creators simply need to use clear, direct language when asking their audience to join their membership program. The system is designed to recognize phrases such as:
- “Become a channel member”
- “Join my channel”
- “Become a Channel Member” (English)
By utilizing these specific keywords, the Creator can ensure that the platform’s automated systems identify the moment of the CTA and trigger the visual highlight. This reduces the cognitive load on the viewer, as they no longer have to search for the button while listening to the instructions; the button effectively “announces” itself.
A Proven Pattern: From Subscriptions to Memberships
This functionality is not entirely new to the YouTube ecosystem but is now being expanded to include memberships. A similar feature has already been in place for the “Subscribe to my channel” call-to-action.
By applying this same logic to the membership button, YouTube is creating a consistent user experience across different types of channel growth and monetization tools. The transition from a verbal prompt to a visual animation has already proven useful for gaining subscribers, and extending this to memberships suggests a push toward making the “Join” process as frictionless as possible.
Practical Implications for Creators
For Creators who have enabled Channel Memberships, this update provides a powerful tool for increasing conversion rates without requiring additional editing or on-screen graphics.
Improving the Viewer Journey In a standard video, there is often a gap between when a Creator asks for support and when a viewer actually locates the button. By adding a colorful animation that triggers in real-time, YouTube bridges this gap. The visual stimulus acts as a confirmation of the verbal request, making the path to membership more intuitive.
Optimizing Your CTAs To make the most of this feature, Creators should be mindful of how they phrase their requests. Using the specific phrases recognized by the system—such as “Join my channel”—increases the likelihood that the animation will trigger correctly. This allows the Creator to focus on the delivery of their content while the platform handles the visual guidance for the viewer.
Summary of the Update
While this is a small technical change, it represents a meaningful improvement in how viewers interact with membership options. By leveraging language recognition to animate the Become a Member button, YouTube is helping Creators turn verbal prompts into tangible results more efficiently.
If you currently offer memberships, ensuring your call-to-actions are clear and direct will allow you to take full advantage of this colorful visual cue, potentially leading to a higher number of members joining your community.

A small update for Creators with Channel Memberships: When you now make a call-to-action and ask your viewers to become a channel member - for example, with “Become a channel member” or in English “Join my channel, become a Channel Member” - the “Become a Member” button below a video will light up with a colorful animation. I think that’s a nice feature. It already existed with “Subscribe to my channel”, and this is simply a new function that has been added due to language recognition. A really nice feature.
Unfortunately, that’s all for this week, so see you again next week. Until then, take care and see you soon!
